Question: Should I Hire A Web Designer?

Yes! You need one.

Sure It is interesting to spend only a few dollars or few rands and have a website running, but is it worth it?

Remember, there are thousands of competitors online, offering the same services that you are offering. This means that your website should be distinct, eye-catching, and be able to convert users, traffic and visitors into sales and customers.

Here are some more vivid reasons why you need a real person or company to do your website.

  1. Source Code: Sitebuilders like Wix and Weebly will not give you access to source code. You find an already-made script that is zipped and can not be accessed. This means that there are things you cannot do with your website. You are limited to what they permit. Likely, you will always see adverts that sell their services within your website. They sometimes even tell the world that you created their websites for free with them. You do not want the world to see that shame!
  2. Search Engine Optimization: A website made in your bedroom or in the comfort of your lounge could look stunning, colorful and time-saving; but after you complete it, you will likely struggle to get it to appear on Google Search and other search crawlers. Professional web designers build a website and index it for a search engine to see it. A beautiful looking website without visitors is like your fancy clothes in the dressing room. Nobody sees it!
  3. Loading Time: Sitebuilders are usually layered with thick scripts, uncompressed CSS, JS and junked HTML. They also have plugins installed on your system by default. Whether you use them or not, they are already proved for your future use. This makes your website to load likely after 10 seconds. Trust me, only your faithful cousins, supporting friends, and neighbors will wait for that much to see your website. And they will likely not buy your services. Yikes!
  4. Domain Names: After setting your top of the range colorful website, site builders will host your website through their own domain. eg. abc.wix.com. That doesn't look good. To redeem yourself from this trap, you will have to pay for the domain (Adverts will still appear, and will need payments of their own). If you will need business emails, they will not allow you to have DNS settings to configure your own emails for free. You will get billed again.
  5. You are stuck!: Remember, even if you pay for this website for 10 years, it will always remain the property of this site builders. Even if you hear of a great hosting special somewhere, you cannot move your files. It's their files. You will just have to go start another website. You were hosted on their servers, they gave you templates; they own you.
There are hundreds of professional web developers in your area. Even by searching Web Designers around me, Google can list the closest to your location. Call them and get a website that will work for your business. It's rewarding.

  1. Hmm it appears like your website ate my first comment (it was extremely long) so I guess I'll just sum it up what I submitted and say, I'm thoroughly enjoying your blog. I too am an aspiring blog blogger but I'm still new to the whole thing. Do you have any suggestions for rookie blog writers? I'd definitely appreciate it.
