Twitter rolls out 280 characters limit, but users want more: Edit Button.

Twitter announced this week that the 140 character limit in tweets will be replaced by a 240 limit,

“More characters. More expression. More of what's happening.”

But not everyone is happy with the move.

Most twitter users argue that giving 280 characters will rather make the platform junky and will reduce its quality in messages.

Twitter has since been allowing users to text in 140 characters since its release. The few characters made users to comfortably express their views in just a few text. This was a arguably the best idea to make the channel stay relevant and straight to the point. However at times there was a need for more than just 140 characters, especially in case of journalism statements and press releases. Most business used third party applications like Tweetlonger Tweetmore to express in more than a few characters back then. The move by twitter surely brought a solution to this.

Edit Button
To some users, all they need is an edit button in their tweets, not a character limit increase.

Twitter has been a reliable source of information for many years, with trends and an a great level of impressions, this solely caused by its inability to edit tweets. It is my view that if tweets were editable, the platform would’ve been so perfect and end up boring. The few mistakes usually referred as ‘typos’ are what keeps the channel interesting.

A recent case, to elaborate this, was when President Donald Trump mistyped a word and ended tweeting ‘Cofveve’, a word that made rounds in social media and created trends. Such stuff wouldn’t exist if twitter had an edit button.

Also, consider for instance a ‘racist' tweet that was quoted and ended up blowing with retweets. If the original tweet would be edited, the quoted tweet would seem biased or misdirected.

Well, there is still no clear evidence as to whether Twitter will consider rolling out an edit option. For now let’s embrace the extra character limit we have.
