Apple host an annual event every September to announce their new products, and this year was no different. In an event that was held at the Steve Jobs Theater, on the 12th September, Apple announced a couple products including the long awaited iPhone8 and iPhone X, Apple Watch and TV's.
The New Apple Phone, iPhone X
Last year, the company announced the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus in a predictable fashion, but so much of this year was announced.

Let's look at some of the top features for iPhone X.


  • Face ID.


Your face is now your password. Face ID is a secure new way to unlock, authenticate, and pay.
Face ID is enabled by the TrueDepth camera and is simple to set up. It projects and analyzes more than 30,000 invisible dots to create a precise depth map of your face. This arguably the best feature of this new iPhone X. This feature even works in the dark. It learns your face. 


  • Wireless Charging

It's a "Wireless charging for a wireless world.", no more carrying cables to charge at work! iPhone X is already introducing us in the future of Wireless!  "Charge with wireless charging stations and mats in hotels, cafes, and airports around the world." 

TrueDepth Camera

 A front Camera has never been this clear. This is the new and improved way to take selfies with sharp foregrounds and artfully blurred backgrounds. The camera comes with a Portrait Lighting feature, that impressively takes studio‑quality pictures with great lighting effects.

  • Animoji

This feature analyzes more than 50 different muscle movements to mirror your expressions in 12 Animoji. It helps you form any king emoji reaction still using the emojis on your phone. 


  • Dual 12MP Cameras

These are two forward cameras that are larger and faster, with a  12MP sensor. A new color filter. Deeper pixels. And a new telephoto camera with OIS. It's "The art of photography. Simplified.."

Both rear cameras have optical image stabilization and fast lenses for outstanding photos and videos even in low light.

The wide-angle and telephoto cameras on iPhone X enable optical zoom, as well as digital zoom of up to 10x for photos and 6x for videos.


  • Faster CPU

The four efficiency cores in the all‑new CPU are up to 70 percent faster than A10 Fusion. And the two performance cores are up to 25 percent faster. 

This new iPhone X CPU is even faster because of the 'A11 Bionic' feature, which is said to be "the most powerful and smartest chip ever in a smartphone, with a neural engine that’s capable of up to 600 billion operations per second." by Apple.

Price and official launch date

The iPhone X will be available to pre-order from 27 October, and will launch on 3 November. The 64GB model will sell for $999, an equivalent of R13098.44 in South Africa.

No official word yet on when it will be officially available in South Africa.
